The show asserts that the tradition of comics in native culture goes back to the days of rock drawings citing the famous image in a Utah national park that dates from 1290 looks as if it’s colored in red white and blue and features a figure carrying a shield. It’s known as "All-American Man. "Indian forays into comics as we know them today however began in the 1940s. But many of the images in this show are by artists working from 1990 on. Many including Marty Two Bulls Sr. tackle the issue of stereotyping Indian peoples but some like Jason Garcia and Huna Smith are more obviously influenced by contemporary comics (even Japanese manga) which they use to tell the stories of Native American life. The show runs through May 31.
